For All Your Disney Vacation Needs

Mommy, Mommy and Me - Trip Planning

I always find the shorter the trip, the harder it is to plan.  I wrote about starting the plan this trip a few weeks ago and so many things have changed!  For Disney fans any trip is a great one, but having just 3 nights and 2 day park tickets make it feel SO hard to squeeze everything in. This is a big reason I recommend to first time visitors a 5 night resort stay (minimally). It's so  much less stressful to stay longer and spread everything out then it is to squeeze it in to just a few days!

So what has changed...and more important why?

I'm not a fan of value resorts for our family.  We don't sleep in the same room at home and the rooms are just on a small side. Plus I don't love the over stimulation that my kids experience after a full day in the parks. We had booked Pop Century as it's just a 3 night stay BUT I wasn't 100% sold (hubby and I love staying here when it's just us).

One of our bucket list resorts is Art of Animation and we plan on staying here at some point as a family, but in a suite. We definitely didn't need a suite for this trip and a quick price check revealed the Little Mermaid rooms not only as available but within a few dollars of Pop (because the discount is SO low this time around).  This trip is 90% for my kids...and this resort is everything they love about Disney! The larger than life characters, the room themeing and for us it's in a great location with a great food court. It was a no brainer to switch!

While we haven't changed our park itinerary we did change a few things about itinerary

Due to the short nature of our trip, I really wanted to arrive earlier. Our original flight was not getting us into Orlando until dinner time.  Since it's a Saturday and I didn't want to sit at home all day.  I managed to get an earlier flight (thanks to Southwest for free changes) and we now arrive at 8:30 a.m.! While it's VERY early it does buy us the WHOLE day. Instead of flying at nap time, we can now have a more normal schedule.

My mom won't get in until lunch time so we are taking our time and using Magical Express (no dragging car seats around). We'll explore the resort, maybe swim if the weather permits, and grab lunch.  My mom will show up to surprise the girls around that time!

We'll play the afternoon by ear (either swim or Disney Springs) but tonight we'll head to some resorts to check out the Christmas decorations and grab dinner. We snagged a last minute reservation at a family favorite, 'Ohana!! Kennedy hasn't been since she was a baby and Finley has never been.

Our first park will still be EPCOT as the Magic Kingdom will be hosting Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.  We'll spend the morning in Future World ending with lunch at Coral Reef.  I think my girls will really love this restaurant and we will be sure to arrive early to try and snag a "window" seat.

After an afternoon nap/swim break we'll head back to the park for some eating around Food and Wine Festival AND to experience Frozen Ever After and meet our favorite princesses.  Illuminations is a little too late for us tonight so we'll have to miss it in favor of a good night's sleep.

Our 2nd Park day is Magic Kingdom with early Extra Magic Hours. I think I'm most excited that I snagged us a lunch reservation at Cinderella's Royal Table. This may be the highlight of the trip and I can't wait for the girls to find out! We'll spend the day meeting their favorite characters (Fingers crossed for a training Meet and Greet with Elena) and we'll definitely be staying for Wishes.

With our arrival flight change, we also had a change to our departure flight so we won't have much time on Tuesday before hopping on Magical Express to head home.  This is most definitely a quick trip and I do wish we were able to head to both Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios (especially for the new Christmas show, BUT I know the girls will love the time we are spending at Disney. Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing a few things we got the girls, including some new dresses, things to keep them occupied on the plane and more!!
